Bless Those Who Curse Me? How? Why?

Jesus declared, “Love your enemies!” And, He meant it in every way! Actually, He doubled down by showing us the way to go beyond carnal love and into the "Love of God."

Luke 6:27 - “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,“

But wait, before you start blessing your enemies, I think it is important to answer these important questions:

Who is my “enemy”?” and, “What is a “blessing”?

Luke 6:27 - “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,“

Your “enemy,” and my enemy is anyone or anything that can potentially harm us, thus making EVERYONE potentially our enemy. Therefore, just to be safe, let's love (bless) EVERYONE regardless. When in doubt, love (bless).

Luke 6:28 - “bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”

Our “enemy” is anyone and anything that distracts us away from Jesus. However, at the same time, our enemies can possibly take us to the heart and love of God.

Romans 12:20 - “But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”

Our "enemy" is anything and everything that can get our eyes and heart off of Jesus and His everlasting Grace. So we trust God's love (His Blessings) no matter what. His ways are above our ways and His wisdom beyond ours.

Romans 8:28 - "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."

If we stay in the love of Christ (His blessings) and only share Christ (share His blessings), we can't get distracted, even by "so-called" enemies.

Proverbs 25:21 - "If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;"

Jesus is our blessing, so as long as our eyes are upon Him, we're blessed. Therefore, when attacked by your enemy, point to Jesus, bring up Jesus, and present Jesus.

Luke 6:29 - “Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.”

The Word of God declares we are ALL blessed through grace and mercy and that without measure. We bless (love) others based on our being blessed (loved) by God. Grace takes it a bit further and requires us to extend love to our enemies as well.

John 1:16 - "For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace."

We are all blessed by God’s grace and mercy and His long-suffering and perseverance, but unfortunately, not all of us have received it. Believe it or not, some reject it!

Luke 6:30 - “Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.”

We are “blessed” by God through Grace, and it's eternal, meaning our blessing always remains, regardless of what we do, either good or bad, BECAUSE of what Jesus did for us. Therefore, when we are blessed so greatly, we become grateful!

Romans 5:8 - "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

We have a God who loves us beyond anything we can ever imagine. And the God who loves us came to show us that we can have His love. So, yes, He wants us to flow in the fullness of His blessings and then share all of His blessings with others.

Titus 2:11 - "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,"

But, I must add, we EXPERIENCE His blessings that come from Grace when we align with His Word (Grace and Truth). Loving our enemies is in alignment with His Word. To love your enemies would reflect HIS NATURE and honor all that He has done through Grace. How could you not be blessed?

Luke 6:31 - “Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.”

We believe that when we place our faith in the Word of God and what Jesus did for all of us, and we stand firm in faith IN HIM regardless of our circumstances, then we ARE TRULY BLESSED!

2 Corinthians 13:14 - "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all."

To serve the living God is a blessing in and of itself, can you imagine. For God to ask me to love my enemies and for me actually to love them IS THE BLESSING.

Luke 6:32 - “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.”

To the believer, "God," the God of love described in the Bible, is our Heavenly Father. That's a big deal! That's HUGE! What blessing could be better?

1 Peter 4:10 - "As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."
